We have around six acres of woodland dominated by kanuka which is accompanied by five finger, seven finger, mahoe, NZ tree fuschia, around five species of coprosma, bush lawyer, muehlenbeckia, parsonia, pittosporum, around ten species of native fern, the NZ tree nettle and many native herbs, mosses, liverworts and lichen.

The species list below was prepared by Colin Meurk - we are grateful to him for taking an interest in our property and delighted that he was able to spend a day with us to teach us about the natural history of our woodland. There are also some exotics including gum trees, flowering cherry, elder, hawthorn, some walnut trees and a pear orchard. The orchard is quite old and may have some heritage value. There are also some pests such as gorse, broom, thistle and foxglove. We will start to document the management of the woodland and the two streams here shortly.

We don't feel confident to produce an insect list but we have seen
the white-tailed spider and this magnificent specimen, the weta.
Ours is a small one but some species can be the size of a small rat.
